Skin tags are a form of warts; they are non cancerous lumps which grow off the body. Skin tags are harmless growths but can be an annoyance for someone who has them. Unlike warts skin tags are not caused by the human papillomavirus, skin tags have no known real cause. The most common cause for a person having skin tags grow on the body is that a close relative had them and they were passed through the genes. Skin tags can occur on the body of anyone, age is not the main factor for why this condition occurs. For those who don’t know a skin tag is a folded piece of skin, where the skin has almost overlapped itself and left a lump which is thin and cylindrical. The skin tag can be a number of colors depending on where it is as well as the color of ones skin. Tags can be pink to a darker brown color and may be flat or jagged on the skin. Skin tags most commonly appear on areas of the body such as armpits, the groin and eye lids. But they have also been seen on the eyelids and upper chest area. Many people who have had their skin tags removed may notice that even though they had no skin tags new ones have formed. This is not uncommon to happen as when someone has skin tags they aren’t too easy to get rid of.
